Located in Chittur, the rural heartland of Palakkad, the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is a 285 sq. km wide plethora of rich wildlife and plants!
The picturesque beauty of the place is increased by the artistic hill ranges whichrangefrom altitudes of 300 to 1400 m above the main sea level. Geographically, the tiger reserve is nestled between the mighty Anamalai hills and the beautiful hills of Nelliyampathi. These valleys provide perfect spots for photographs and offers scenic view points!
The Karimalai hills of the Parambikulam reserve provides a splendid view of the Thunakadavu and Parambikulam water reservoirs. Parambikulam is credited for creating the first scientifically managed teak plantations of the world, which was later merged with the forest land.This plantation in fact also has the world's tallest and oldest teak tree named the ‘Kannimara’ (Connemara – an Irish name). The tree is believed to be around 350 years-old and is about 40 metres tall and 7 metres wide!
The indigenoustribal communities living in the junglesof Parambikulam believe that the Kannimara tree isthe abode of celestial beings. They conduct worship and special prayers at the place.

The tiger reserve is open from 7:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. every day and also houses various accommodation facilities inside the tiger reserve for the tourists and wildlife enthusiasts.
